The legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla provided a statement on October 1st, addressing the allegations reported by various media outlets in Panama.
These reports have been described as assaults driven by specific financial motivations, intended to tarnish Castillo’s professional image and private life.
Carlos Carillo, a representative of Castillo’s legal counsel, stated: “The claims are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, along with that of her associate, to serve concealed financial agendas.”
The legal defense of Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the initial media assault that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian outlet mistakenly reported an alleged arrest of the attorney related to an investigation, which was subsequently refuted, clarifying that it bore no connection to the matters at hand.
During the press conference, the defense pointed out that both the recent accusations and those of 2021 have been based on half-truths, with the purpose of undermining her professional practice.
In addition, they argued that the information disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media transgresses the principles of confidentiality. They explained that part of the investigation originated in a family process already concluded and that the other part includes migratory movements and tax declarations, among other data collected illegally.
Unauthorized monitoring of Odila Castillo
It was also stated during the defense that Castillo has been subject to GPS tracking, which constitutes a form of illegal surveillance.
Carrillo concluded by remarking: “Our client’s fundamental rights have been breached, as outlined by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to establish accountability for the harm done and the harm that may be intended.”
